Blood drive honors longtime donor

A commemorative blood drive will be conducted this month in honor of 30-year Lawrence donor Robert Osburn.

The blood drive will be from noon to 6 p.m. July 16 at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

Osburn had given nearly 13 gallons of blood before doctors told him that he couldn’t donate anymore.

In December, Osburn was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

“I am hoping at least one individual will take up the cause and give regularly, now that I cannot,” Osburn said.

To donate blood, people must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.

To make an appointment to donate, call 800-448-3543 or click on the American Red Cross Web site at http://cp.bloodisneeded.org/default.aspx.
