Tonganoxie boys 54, De Soto 50

De Soto — Three days removed from getting blasted by De Soto in its own tournament, the Tonganoxie High boys basketball team got some revenge on the road Tuesday night.

The Chieftains, initially, looked like they might get walloped again as the Wildcats got out to a 15-point first-quarter lead. However, Tonganoxie cut the deficit to six after one quarter and entered halftime tied with De Soto.

A tight second half went in the favor of THS (7-4), which was led by junior forward Keaton Schaffer’s game-high 21 points.

De Soto (8-4) was led by Jamel Townsend and Aaron Nutterfield, who each scored 12.

Tonganoxie plays its second of four straight road contests on Friday at Santa Fe Trail. The Wildcats travel Friday to Baldwin.

Baldwin 65 boys, Osawatomie 54

Baldwin City — Four Baldwin players scored in double figures against Osawatomie.

Brandon Tommer led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Also scoring in double figures were Zach Wright (14), Sam Beecher (12) and Justin Vander Tuig (11).

Baldwin will next host De Soto at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Tonganoxie girls 50, De Soto 37

De Soto — The Tonganoxie High girls basketball team defeated De Soto for the second time in eight days.

A week after beating the Wildcats in the opening round of the Tonganoxie Invitational, the Chieftains picked up a road win.

Junior guard Andie Jeannin led THS (8-3) with 12 points. Senior forward Roni Grizzle scored 11, sophomore forward Danielle Miller had 10 and senior point guard Chrissie Jeannin chipped in nine.

Kelsey Fisher of De Soto (2-9) led all scorers with 18.

Tonganoxie travels to Santa Fe Trail on Friday.

Baldwin girls 62, Wellsville 30

Wellsville — For the 19th straight year, Baldwin has won its opening round game of the Top Gun Tournament.

Tracie Weege sank five three-pointers in the victory as she led BHS win 18 points. Ramie Burkhart added 15, while Alex Zordel scored 10.
