Poor shooting dooms Eagles girls in 53-45 loss

? Melissa Hardee and Kirsten Bennett scored in double figures, but the Veritas Christian girls basketball team lost to Flint Hills Christian, 53-45, in the KCAA 2A state tournament.

The Eagles ended their season at 7-16.

“We did not shoot the ball well today,” said Veritas coach Kevin Shelton, who estimated the Eagles shot 19 percent from the field. They converted 14-of-22 free throws. “We missed a lot of shots we had been making lately. It was a tough loss for our team and our seniors, but I’m proud of how they fought and played. It just wasn’t our day.”
