Patty Jaimes, Douglas County clerk, estimated that only about 28 percent of the registered voters would turn out for the city primary election. She said the final total probably would run in the range of 8,500 to 9,000 voters. Lawrence had 30,805 registered voters. Jaimes said there had been a 39 percent increase in requests for absentee ballots.
