Man shot in leg after dispute at apartment

A Lawrence man was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Tuesday night for a gunshot wound to the leg following an incident in the 2500 block of Redbud Lane, Lawrence police said. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

The incident occurred after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. There was a dispute at a second-story apartment in a complex, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel. Witnesses reported seeing two men get into a maroon car and head south on Redbud and one person get into a green car and head north.

Within roughly 15 minutes of police arriving on the scene, police received a report of a gunshot victim at the BP station at 19th Street and Haskell Avenue, Hubbel said. The victim was a resident of the complex and had been living there for less than a month, Hubbel said.

Tabitha McCoy, a resident in the complex, said she heard a loud noise that could have been a gunshot. She went outside to see what was happening.

“Two gentlemen were running down the stairs, jumped in a car and took off,” she said.
