Parks and Rec sponsors two Halloween parties

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department has planned two children’s Halloween activities on Saturday.

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, is hosting a Spook ‘n’ Splash party for children ages 3 to 12. Children can swim, play games and eat candy from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The evening kicks off with a costume contest, and prizes will be awarded for the scariest, funniest and most original costumes. The fee for the event is $4 and the registration deadline is today. For more information contact Jai Hoyer, aquatics programmer, at 832-7946.

Also on Saturday, a Trunk or Treat Party is planned from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.

Families are asked to decorate their car’s trunk or hatch and bring candy so children can trick-or-treat in a supervised environment. Free hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served at 6 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for best decorated trunk and best costume. Participation is free. For more information or to reserve a parking spot, contact Olivia Mayer, recreation center programmer, at 832-7950.

Parks and Recreation also recommends Halloween Night trick-or-treating from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The department also encourages homeowners wishing to participate to turn on porch lights.
