Lane biography author to speak at festival

At Sunday’s River City Book Festival, author Robert Collins will present his recent biography on Jim Lane, a controversial U.S. senator from Kansas during the Civil War.

Collins will speak and sign his book, “Jim Lane: Scoundrel, Statesman, Kansan,” during the festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

And on Saturday, Collins will discuss his book with Tim Rues of Constitution Hall in Lecompton, who will portray Lane. That event will begin at 2 p.m. at Watkins Community Museum, 1047 Mass. The author and his subject will discuss the book and Lane’s life.

Both events are free and open to the public.
