Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for June 9, 1907: “Billy, the beloved black horse belonging to David Krehbiel, laid down on Massachusetts Street and died yesterday. The horse was 21 years old and had been brought here 17 years ago by Krehbiel. The animal was called Billy the Baptist Horse because for so many years he helped with errands for the Baptist women’s groups here. : Directors are now selling $10 shares in the county society to help finance the big county fair being planned for this fall. The aim is to sell 150 shares in Lawrence and 100 elsewhere to raise $2,500 to finance the fair to the fullest. Many want to make this the finest fair in local history.”
