Pujols comes alive

St. Louis slugger homers twice in win

? Albert Pujols broke out of an April drought with two home runs and five RBIs, and Chris Duncan was 4-for-5 with a homer to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 10-2, on Sunday.

Converted reliever Braden Looper was effective in his third straight start for the Cardinals, who scored four runs during an 0-4 start at Busch Stadium.

Their first home victory since beating the Tigers in Game 5 of the World Series came against Brewers ace Ben Sheets, who fell to 4-14 in 22 career starts against St. Louis.

Pujols, who entered the game batting .158 with two RBIs, has 17 career multihomer games.

Looper (2-1) has won two of his first three major-league starts after making 572 consecutive relief appearances.

Sheets (1-2) gave up eight runs, seven earned, and eight hits in five-plus innings. His 14 losses against St. Louis are six more than he has against any other opponent.

Phoenix – Tony Clark homered twice and drove in three runs, leading Arizona over Colorado.

It was the 22nd multihomer game for the 34-year-old Clark, one of many major leaguers who wore No. 42 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s major-league debut.

Todd Helton hit his first home run for the Rockies.

Dodgers 9, Padres 3

Los Angeles – Andre Ethier, Russell Martin and Wilson Valdez had three hits each as Los Angeles snapped San Diego starter Chris Young’s streak of 25 consecutive road starts without a loss.

Young was 9-0 with 16 no-decisions on the road dating to June 25, 2005, at Houston when he was pitching for Texas.

Ethier homered and drove in his first four runs of the season for the Dodgers, who stole five bases – their most since Aug. 23, 1999, when they stole seven in a game at Milwaukee.
