Downtown Catering is reopening next month under new owners and a new name.

Carl and Carol Latham plan to open Terrabonne Downtown Catering in mid-October at 805 Vt., a 500-square-foot shop that had been Downtown Catering & Carry-Out. The place will offer carryout lunches and dinners, and be open weekdays. Hours have not been set.

“We’ve always thought about doing something like this,” Carl Latham said Thursday outside the shop. “It sort of dropped in our lap.”

The Lathams – each of whom previously worked as cooks at Kansas University fraternities – bought the shop’s equipment from Dorothy Malsbury, who closed Downtown Catering this year. The Lathams signed a one-year lease, with options for future years.

Carl Latham, who cooks for “Cajun Night” at Johnny’s Tavern in North Lawrence, plans to offer gumbos and other soups this winter at the new business.
