Downtown waterline construction begins
Only southbound traffic allowed between Seventh, Ninth
Motorists should be prepared to encounter major construction as they enter downtown today.
Construction crews have narrowed Massachusetts Street to a one-lane road between Seventh and Ninth streets as they begin to replace an approximately 100-year old waterline.
During the next seven weeks, that portion of Massachusetts Street will be open only to southbound traffic. Then crews will switch sides and the portion of Massachusetts Street only will be open to northbound traffic. Parking only will be allowed on one side of the street. Sidewalks will be open on both sides of the street.
The project is expected to last until mid-September.
