Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 31, 1906: “The Second District Congressional Committee met today and confirmed that Charles Scott’s majority over Henry J. Allen was 1,539 after a bitter contest. : It appears that fraternity problems at Ottawa High School parallel those in Lawrence, where the faculty is becoming increasingly strident in opposition to such disruptive groups. : The fact there are 100 more names registered in our Fifth Ward than there are voters living there lends color to the rumor that a Union Pacific train brought in a few carloads of floaters to register and vote in the recent elections. :The announcement that the students at Kansas University have given local police no problems whatever this year is quite a testimony to the caliber of KU students.”
