St. Patrick’s queen will reign in parade

A 21-year-old Lawrence woman was selected as this year’s St. Patrick’s Day queen during Sunday’s annual coronation and banquet held at the Flamingo Club.

Alicia Roberts, who works at BG Consultants, will reign over the 19th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Friday. The parade will start at 1 p.m. at South Park. There are about 100 entries in this year’s parade.

Other queen candidates were Ashley Victor, 21, Lawrence; Emily Bannwarth, 19, Lawrence; and Laura Farley, 23, Lawrence.

Also on tap for Friday’s St. Patrick’s activities is a benefit concert from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Bottleneck. Performing will be Kelley Hunt. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the concert.

The St. Patrick’s Parade has raised more than $340,000 for local children’s charities in the past 18 years. Proceeds from this year’s parade will benefit Health Care Access, Douglas County 4-H Afterschool Programs and Douglas County Friends of Children in Foster Care.
