Temperatures soaring up to near record

Rain moving in Saturday

If you liked Thursday’s midwinter balmy weather, you’ll like today’s – Lawrence temperature will soar to a near-record 60 degrees.

“The temperature is heading well above average,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. The record high for today’s date is 64, set in 1914 and the record low was minus 10, set in 1902. The average low temperature for this date is 21 degrees, with the average high 40.

At 1:15 p.m., the temperature was 58 degrees, the humidity was 41 percent, and winds were from the southwest at 14 mph.

“It looks like another warm and partly cloudy day,” Schack said. Winds will be from the south today at 10 to 18 mph, Schack said.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 45 degrees, with the possibility of some showers, beginning at 3 a.m., Schack said.

“It does look like we’ll get wet for Saturday,” Schack said. “We have a chance for showers in the morning, then another chance for showers in the afternoon.”

Saturday’s high temperature will be 53 degrees.

Clouds will linger on Sunday, and cooler temperatures will return. Sunday’s morning low will be 34 degrees, with Sunday’s high climbing to 44 degrees, Schack said.

She said there is the chance for some snow flurries on Sunday night.
