Oklahoma freshman hurts knee

Clark out for season with torn ligaments

? University of Oklahoma forward Keith Clark will miss the rest of the men’s basketball season with a knee injury suffered in the Sooners’ 69-42 victory over Southern Methodist on Thursday night.

Clark crumpled to the floor in the middle of a drive midway through the first half.

A magnetic resonance imaging test on Friday revealed he tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee.

Clark will undergo surgery during the next 10 to 14 days and should recover in four to six months.

“This is a huge blow to our team,” Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel said. “First of all, it’s a big blow to Keith. He was just starting to play really well.

“I thought he had his best game of the year against Tulsa and played very well last night against SMU before he got hurt. He was making the jump to becoming a good college basketball player and I hate to see this happen to him.”

Clark led Putnam City High School of Oklahoma City to last season’s Class 6A title.

This season, the 6-foot-8, 245-pound freshman reserve has played in all 11 of OU’s games, averaging 3.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 12.2 minutes a contest.

He is shooting 42.4 percent from the field and has gone 5-for-16 from 3-point range. He made four of his first eight 3-point attempts this season.

The Sooners, 8-3 in Capel’s first season, will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to meet Alabama’s Crimson Tide at 1:30 p.m. New Year’s Day in a Big 12/SEC marquee matchup. OU will open Big 12 play against Texas Tech on Jan. 6.
