American to charge $25 for late changes

American Airlines is making it easier to hop on an early flight if you’re ready to go before your original flight leaves – but it will cost you a few bucks.

Fort Worth, Texas-based American unveiled a new policy Thursday that allows travelers to change plans at the last minute and get a confirmed seat on a different flight, for a $25 fee. Previously, travelers who wanted to board an earlier flight had to travel on “standby” status.

Until now, the only way to get a confirmed seat on a different flight was to change the reservation, which could end up costing hundreds of dollars.
