Halloween events for kids scheduled

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring several Halloween events for children.

From 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, the agency will host the 34th annual Halloween Paint-In, which allows children in the third grade or older to decorate downtown Lawrence storefronts.

Students should submit a sketch to Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St., detailing what they want to paint on a store window. Sketches are due by 5 p.m. today. An informational meeting is set for 5 p.m. tonight at the Holcom center.

At 5 p.m. on Oct. 29, the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will host Spook ”n Splash, offering several trick-or-treat stations and games. There’s a $3 entry fee for children 3 to 12 years old. Also from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Oct. 29, the city will host Saturday Nite’s Main Event Halloween Party at East Lawrence Center, 1245 E. 15th St. The event is open to students fourth through eighth grades.

At 1 p.m. on Oct. 30, Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., will host an open house featuring programs on bats, owls and other night creatures.
