Sheriff to speak today on Web site

Douglas County Sheriff Ken McGovern will take part in an online chat with the public this afternoon on the Journal-World’s Web site.

McGovern, a Republican who ran uncontested for sheriff last year, will chat at 1:30 p.m. on ljworld.com.

McGovern’s goals have been to improve efficiency in the department, develop its strengths through training and enhance its technology.

McGovern joined the department in 1982 as a jail corrections officer. He continued to rise through the ranks and worked in the patrol unit.

He was named undersheriff in 2002 and succeeded Rick Trapp as sheriff in January.
