County to upgrade software

Douglas County commissioners Wednesday night approved the purchase of nearly $50,000 in software to upgrade the computer system in the Register of Deeds office.

The software will be bought from Computer Information Concepts for $47,821 to be paid out of the Register of Deeds technology fund.

The software currently in use is six years old and was bought from Custom Software Limited, which has since merged with CIC. About 40 Kansas counties are using the software, Register of Deeds Kay Pesnell said.

In other business, commissioners:

¢ Approved Finney & Turnipseed, Transportation and Civil Engineering LLP, for handling engineering design services for replacement of a concrete deck on the Kansas River bridge at Lecompton. The firm will be paid a lump sum of $85,500.

¢ Approved a request from John and Rebecca Thomas to rezone about three acres of land from agricultural and valley channel to A-1 suburban residential. The property is between the Wakarusa River and East 1900 Road, northwest of North 1275 Road.

¢ Approved a conditional use permit for a truck storage facility requested by Mobile Enviro-Wash Truck Storage, at 677 East 1250 Road.
