Volunteers sought to assist at Jubilee Cafe

Jubilee Cafe provides breakfast for in-need community members in a restaurant-style environment. The cafe needs volunteers from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. Volunteers are not required to register in advance and are welcome to participate for all or part of the morning. Volunteer duties include food preparation, set-up, waiting tables, visiting with guests and cleanup. For more information, go online at www.ku.edu/~cco.

Immediate volunteer needs

¢ The Ballard Community Center needs two volunteers to assist with food and commodity distribution. Volunteers must be able to lift and carry a 20-pound box. The commodity distribution will take place from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. June 15. For more information, or to sign up, contact Paul Hunt at 842-0729.

¢ Meals on Wheels needs volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities. Drivers are needed for deliveries on Tuesdays and Fridays. Drivers pick up from three to six meals between 11:30 a.m. and noon at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and deliver them. It usually takes an hour or less to deliver the meals. Delivery volunteers must have valid insurance and a driver’s license. For more information about volunteering with Meals on Wheels, call Kim Cullis at 979-1440.

¢ Trinity Respite Care, an agency serving individuals of all ages with disabilities, needs volunteers for the “Time Out for Parents” child-care program. Volunteers will supervise and engage in activities with children ages newborn to 8 years old, with and without special needs, at the Trinity Respite Care office, 2201 W. 25th St. The program will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. two Saturdays per month. Experience is not necessary, but a short interview and orientation are required. For more information, contact Kelly or Angie at 842-3159.

¢ In celebration of National Trails Day, the Perry Lake Park organization needs volunteers to help with the installation of a memorial park bench along the trail. Activities will include shuttling bench materials and equipment to the site, identifying and clearing an ideal location, preparing concrete and assembling the bench. Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. June 18 to begin the project, which should last two to three hours.
