Eudora softball rolls in opener, 9-1

? Eudora High softball pitchers Brynn Hamilton and Caitlyn Riser combined on a one-hitter Monday as the Cardinals pasted West Franklin, 9-1, in a first-round Class 4A playoff game.

Alissa Hamilton, who had two of Eudora’s five hits, hit a two-run double in a five-run sixth. EHS scored two in the second.

Alissa Hamilton walked and was replaced by pinch runner Laura Williams. Karen Spence reached on an error, and Riser walked. A passed ball scored Williams, and a sacrifice fly plated Spence with the other run of the frame.

“We were aggressive on the bases,” EHS coach Cara Kimberlin said. “That’s good, but when we play Santa Fe Trail, we have to be smarter on the bases. Kayla (Moyer) was hitting the ball hard, and Michelle (Deluna) was hitting the ball hard. It was just bad luck (the hits didn’t fall).”

Santa Fe Trail and the Cardinals will meet Wednesday at Eudora. Game time has yet to be determined.
