Douglas County under flash flood warning

Douglas County, Leavenworth County and Wyandotte County will be under a flash flood warning until 7:00 a.m. Friday.

The heavy rainfall has already caused high water around several areas around Lawrence including 23rd Street and Ousdahl Road and under the North Lawrence underpass, said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s a good idea not to drive not only around the city of Lawrence but also around northeast Kansas at this moment as heavy rain is continuing to fall on already-saturated ground,” he said.

More storms are expected to drift into Lawrence as the city is now on the edge of another cell, Sayers said.

“This rain is going to continue for quite some time as the heaviest band is just south of Interstate 70 and continuing to track right in our direction,” he said. “It does look to continue throughout the early morning hours.”
