Citywide egg hunt planned for South Park

Children will have a chance to find eggs and treats on Saturday at the Lawrence Parks and Recreation/Hy-Vee Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza at South Park, 1131 Mass.

The annual event is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Children are asked to gather at the bandstand in South Park. Children with last names beginning with A through M will hunt from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Children with last names beginning with N through Z will hunt from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Children may collect a maximum of five eggs during the hunt. The Easter Bunny will be on hand and available for photos. For more information, call the parks and recreation department at 832-7940.

Biographer to speak at KU’s Dole Institute

A prolific biographer who most recently wrote about Condoleezza Rice will speak next week at the Dole Institute of Politics at Kansas University.

Antonia Felix, a Lawrence resident, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in an event that is free and open to the public.

Felix, author of “Condi: The Condoleezza Rice Story,” also will sign copies of the book she wrote about the secretary of state and former national security adviser.

Felix’s other book subjects include Laura Bush, Andrea Bocelli, Gen. Wesley Clark, Harry Connick Jr. and Christine Todd Whitman.

Museum to offer needlework lecture

A retired Fort Hays State University history professor, Ann E. Liston, will discuss the economic, social and cultural influences on women’s needlework at 3 p.m. April 3 at the Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass. The presentation, “Pins & Needles,” is free and open to the public.

Liston’s areas of research include American diplomatic history and the American needlework history. She also knits and embroiders.

Liston retired from Fort Hays State in June 2001. She served as the history department chair for about four years.

The presentation is through the Kansas Humanities Council, a nonprofit organization.
