Salkind, Turney say goodbye to board

Longtime Lawrence school board members Leni Salkind and Austin Turney bid farewell to the board Monday.

Both leave their posts after serving for eight years. They will be replaced by Craig Grant and John Mitchell.

Turney and Salkind recalled their years on the board and recognized the district’s accomplishments.

“We developed systems and a culture that really fosters cooperation throughout the district,” Turney said.

Salkind said that in the last eight years, the board has developed a facilities plan, a technology plan and a strategic plan. She said the district has made strides in the area of communication and operated with reduced administrative staff. “It’s been a great experience,” she said of her time on the board. “I will stay connected.”
