Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 25, 1905: “Saturday night (Dec. 23) saw the culmination of the most successful Christmas season that the merchants in the business district have ever enjoyed. Everywhere the unanimous opinion seemed to be that this year’s trade will far surpass that of last year. Not only has the volume of trade been much larger but the quality of goods has been far superior to that commonly purchased last year. Weaver’s window is probably the best on the street and as such has attracted more than ordinary attention. : A fine bulldog belonging to Jess Worley had to be shot the other morning having developed distinct symptoms of blind rabies. This is the second dog that had to be killed in the past 10 days on account of hydrophobia. It behooves every owner of a dog to be very careful as there is no telling how many dogs have been bitten.”
