Sibyl E. Rice

Mrs. Rice died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born Oct. 25, 1908, in Prairie Center, the daughter of John Milton and Mary Ida Andrew White. She grew up in Prairie Center and graduated from Eudora High School in 1927.

Mrs. Rice and her husband ran a small grocery store, filling station and garage in Prairie Center. They owned and operated Rice Oil Co. in Lawrence for several years. She later worked in the kitchen at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for 12 years. They moved to Eudora in 1971.

She married Edwin L. Rice on July 24, 1927, in Stark. He died May 17, 1989.

Survivors include three sons, Gayle Rice, Olathe, and Robert R. Rice and Duane Rice, both of Riverside, Calif.; two daughters, Verla May, Lawrence, and Jeanne Dean, Eudora; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
