University Bridge Club announces winners of its Jan. 31 game. Paul and Carolyn Jordan, Iva Koleber and Phil Hawley were hosts.

Blue winners were Jean Khatib, first; Alice Akins, second; Paul Jordan, third; Ed Stellmacher, fourth; and Roy Cropp, fifth.

Pink winners were Iva Koleber, first; Florence McNicoll, second; Gladys Dight, third; Cathy Waller, fourth; and Virginia Williams, fifth.

  • Knights of Columbus Council 1372 Homes Assn. announced the winners of the Martin E. Henry Award for Volunteerism. They are Leroy Morgison and Bernard Hickert. Morgison has run the Columbus club and has been financial secretary for council 1372. He also has been a member of the Homes Assn. board of directors. Hickert was a past Grand Knight for council 1372. He also has served on the Homes Assn. board of directors. They received their awards at an appreciation party Jan. 31 at the Knights of Columbus.
  • The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club played host to an American Contract Bridge League-sponsored Sectional Tournament at Club game Jan. 28. Six tables competed in a stratified game that used a Mitchell movement. Eldon Herd directed the game.

Playing North-South, Harriet Olson and Artie Shaw claimed first place in A, B and C. Jeff Nash and Lois Jones placed second in A and B.

Competing East-West, Dan Osman and Olivier Urruty placed first in A, B and C. Grant Sutton and Amy Miller took second in A and B.

  • The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club played host to a Sectional Tournament at Club game Jan. 30. The American Contract Bridge Club sponsored the event.

The game attracted 9 1/2 tables for a stratified game that used a Rover Mitchell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Sitting North-South, Patt Radford and Betty Collier placed first in A and B. Virginia Seaver and Chris Lane took second in A. Jeff Nash and Lois Jones were third in A and second in B. Julia Brooks and Harry Shaffer finished fourth in A and third in B. Dan Osman and Olivier Urruty finished first in C.

Playing East-West, Dave Piro and Paul Heitzman claimed first place in A. Cathy Blumenfeld and Lois Clark placed second in A and first in B and C. Shirley Vaughn and Phyllis Brownlee were third in A and second in B. Harriet Olson and Artie Shaw placed fourth in A, third in B and second in C.

  • The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club met Monday. Eight pairs competed in the game that used a Howell movement. Virginia Seaver directed the game.

Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges claimed first place. Jerry Sloan and Eldon Herd placed second. Olivier Urruty and Don Brennaman finished third.
