Senator’s campaign still citing sex class

? Susan Wagle, a Republican from Wichita who could become the next president of the state Senate, again is lashing out at Kansas University.

In a campaign mailer, Wagle announces, “Some Kansas professors are using your tax money to turn their classrooms into red light districts.”

Without mentioning KU by name, Wagle reiterates her charges of 2003, when she accused KU professor Dennis Dailey of showing pornographic films and making inappropriate comments in his class on human sexuality.

KU investigated the complaint and determined Wagle’s charges were baseless.

Wagle, however, has dismissed the KU investigation as a whitewash and continues to hammer on the subject during her GOP primary battle against former Wichita Mayor Bob Knight.

Lynn Bretz, director of university relations, said KU “has no desire to be dragged into the campaign.”

But Bretz said Wagle’s campaign flier, and a previous one that addressed the same issue, contained “inaccuracies and misrepresentations of fact.”

Bretz, however, said KU would make no move to approach Wagle about the campaign material.

“People have a right to make judgments on their elected officials,” she said.

Bretz directed anyone who wanted more information on the allegations made by Wagle and “why we say the allegations have no merit,” to several Web sites:

Wagle could not be reached for comment on the latest flier.

If Wagle wins Tuesday’s primary and the November general election, she is considered a contender for the president of the Kansas Senate, one of the most powerful positions in the state.
