Cubs’ Wood, Baker draw suspensions

New York — Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood was suspended for five games and Chicago manager Dusty Baker for one game Wednesday for confronting umpires during their recent series against Cincinnati.

Baker served his suspension during Wednesday night’s game at Arizona. Wood said he would appeal the penalty and would continue to play until a hearing was held.

Marlins’ Gonzalez, Phils’ Pratt suspended

New York — Florida Marlins shortstop Alex Gonzalez and Philadelphia Phillies catcher Todd Pratt each drew three-game suspensions Wednesday for a brawl last week.

Gonzalez and Pratt both appealed and will not serve the penalties until hearings are held.

Gonzalez was informed about his suspension before an afternoon game at Colorado and was in the lineup.
