KU men’s golf third at Nelson

Stanford, Calif. — The Kansas University men’s golf squad is in third place after the second round of the 15-team Nelson Invitational Saturday at Stanford Golf Course.

The Jayhawks, who shot 279 in Friday’s first round, totaled 283 Saturday on the par-71 layout.

KU trails first-place Washington by five strokes and second-place Duke by three strokes.

KU junior Andrew Price is tied for second after a 68 Saturday and a two-round total of 135. Junior Kevin Ward is tied for 22nd at 141 total, freshman Tyler Docking is tied for 38th at 143, freshman Gary Woodland is tied for 42nd at 144, and sophomore Ryan Rainer is tied for 47th at 145.

KU tennis tandem falls in semifinals

Salt Lake City — The Kansas University doubles team of seniors Emily Haylock and Kristen Steinbock lost in the semifinal round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Assn. Women’s Regional Saturday at Eccles Tennis Center.

The Jayhawks won their quarterfinal match Saturday, beating Denver University’s Yanick Dullens and Suzana Maksovic, 8-5, but lost to New Mexico’s Maja Kovacek and Sandy Lukowski, 9-7, in the semifinals.

KU now must await word whether any of its players will play in the National Indoor Championships Nov. 1.
