Baker seeking third straight win
ST. CHARLES, MO. ? Baker University hopes to stretch its football win streak to three games when it tangles today with Lindenwood U.
Kickoff for the Heart of America Conference contest will be at 1:30 p.m. at Hunter Stadium on the Lindenwood campus.
Baker, 3-3, has posted back-to-back victories over Avila (20-13) and Culver-Stockton (28-19) with Blake Pearson starting at quarterback.
Pearson, who spent two years at Hutchinson Community College and a red-shirt season at Southwest Missouri State before transferring to Baker, has replaced senior Martin Updike under center.
Pearson is a 6-foot-2, 197-pound junior from Valley Center.
Meanwhile, another junior-college transfer, running back Jon Reeves, continues to lead the league in rushing. Reeves, a 5-foot-11, 220-pound junior from Palestine, Texas, who spent the last two years at New Mexico Military Institute, is averaging an HAAC-high 138.5 yards per game on the ground.
Reeves carried 36 times for 179 yards in Saturday’s triumph over Culver-Stockton. In six games, Reeves has carried 172 times for 831 yards.
Lindenwood has won only one game in seven starts, a 24-0 victory over William Jewell. The Lions are coming off a 27-23 loss to Avila.
Baker will return to Baldwin Saturday to battle Benedictine at 1:30 p.m.
