Toy Bowl slated for Sunday at YSI

Lawrence Youth Football Inc. event to include three games

The annual Toy Bowl, sponsored by Lawrence Youth Football Inc., will be Sunday at the Youth Sports Inc. fields.

The B-team championship at 11 a.m. will pit the unbeaten Cougars (6-0) against the once-beaten Hurricanes (5-1).

In the A-game at 1 p.m., the unbeaten Hurricanes (6-0) will tangle with the twice-beaten Baldwin Bulldogs.

The seventh-grade championship at 3 p.m. will match upstart Southwest (1-5) against South (2-3). In the semifinals, Southwest stunned top-seeded Central and South edged West.

All games will be played at Field Three at the youth sports complex off the South Lawrence Trafficway at Inverness Drive.

“We’ll have tents for each team, a public address system and a scoreboard,” said Brett Toelkes, president of Lawrence Youth Football Inc.

Admission is $1 or a new toy. Toelkes emphasized the toy must be new. All toys will be donated to charity.

LYFI will also be sponsoring a 48-team regional tournament at YSI. Teams from Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Nebraska are expected for the Nov. 7-9 tourney that will be staged on all five YSI football fields.
