Alvamar Takes Title: Lawrence’s Alvamar CC has won the Kansas City Metro women’s golf team championship for the second straight year. Loch Lloyd was runner-up in the summer competition and Brookridge third. Alvamar team members are June Adams, Darlene Allen, Bebe Arbuckle, Sheila Collier, Anna Fillipsen, Vicki Friend, Barbara Perry, Linda Swain, Sherry Tiemeyer, Connie Winters and Elaine Brady.

  • Sandrat Run Champs: Tom Kreissler of Lawrence and Amy Chipman of Blue Springs, Mo., were the overall male and female winners of the 9.55-mile Sandrat Trail Run Sunday on the Kansas River trails.

  • KU Baseball Lessons: Kansas University’s baseball staff will offer weekly semi-private lessons Sundays starting Oct. 26 and ending in March. All ages are welcome. For information, call Reggie Christiansen at 864-7135.

  • Roesler Tourney Titlist: Chad Roesler shot 74-75–149 and won last weekend’s Jayhawk Golf Club stroke-play tournament championship at Alvamar. Greg Wyatt was runner-up at 74-76–150. Van Reichert was third at 75-78–153. In net scoring, Chris Anderson was low with 72-71–143, followed by Jim Currier 69-76–145 and Scott Reichert 71-74–145.

  • Boeck Second: Dee Boeck of Lawrence finished second in her age group (50-54) in the Ryka Take Fitness to Heart women’s run Sunday in Kansas City, Mo. Lawrence’s Alison Stiner (16-19) and Celeste Leonardi (55-59) finished third in their age groups.
  • Hitchcock Hole-in-One: Marge Hitchcock used an eight-iron to ace the par-3, 90-yard No. 8 hole Monday at The Orchards Golf Course. Witnesses were Kay Jaimes and Charlene Garzillo.

  • Corn Earns Gold: George Corn of Lawrence won the golf gold medal in the 90-plus age group at the Kansas Senior Olympics Friday at Topeka Western Hills. Al Gallup of Lawrence earned the silver medal in the ages 85-89 division.
  • Raiders Coach Deadline: Application deadline is Nov. 3 for the head coaching position of the Lawrence Amateur Baseball Association’s U-18 Raiders team. For information, call Ron Goodwin at 843-4662.
  • Baranski Nets Nine: Dennis Baranski of Lecompton won nine gold medals at the Heartland Health Good Life Games Saturday in St. Joseph, Mo. Baranski also broke the meet record in the discus with a throw of 141 feet, two inches.

  • Brunfeldt Shines: Adam Brunfeldt, an Emory University freshman from Lawrence, helped his school’s cross country team finish second out of 14 teams in the Georgia Collegiate Championships and earned all-state honors.
