Train derailment clean-up efforts continue

Cleanup efforts continue today at the site of a train derailment Wednesday night in north Lawrence. Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said crews worked throughout the night cleaning up the 16 derailed coal cars from the tracks near 4th and Locust streets.

Davis said crews hope to have 600 feet of track repaired by 6 p.m. Thursday. All train traffic has been rerouted since the incident, which happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. No one was injured in the derailment and an investigation is continuing.
