He was born in Wellsville, the son of Jess and Verda (Truex) Emery. He attended grade school in the Coal Creek area. The family later moved to Ozwakie, where Mr. Emery graduated from high school.

After high school, Mr. Emery moved to the Baldwin area, where he did custom hay baling for several years. He also owned and operated a dairy farm.

He is survived by two brothers, Eugene, Kansas City, Kan., and Gary, Baldwin; and a sister, Maxine Grifham, Alabama.
