Glass finishes second

Bob Chamberlain dethroned Bob Glass from his reign as king of the PBA Senior Pennsylvania Open on Tuesday night at Berks Lanes.

Chamberlain, of Auburn Hills, Mich., defeated Glass, of Lawrence, in the title match, 248-173, and earned his third senior title along with the $8,000 top prize.

Glass, the 2000 and 2001 PBA Senior Player of the Year, was aiming to join Dick Weber (Las Vegas, 1986-88) as just the second player in Senior Tour history to complete a tournament threepeat. He won this tournament its first two years, before changing venues for 2002.

But, Glass couldn’t crack the championship lanes.

“I could stand out there for another 20-25 minutes and not figure it out,” he said. “I mean, I shot 170 on that pair in the pro-am.”

The six-time champion managed to roll just four of 12 possible strikes against Chamberlain. Glass threw three splits and left those frames open; the fifth (3-10), ninth (3-4-6-7-10) and tenth (4-10). He earned $4,500.

Chamberlain opened with two spares sandwiched around a strike in the second. He rolled four straight strikes through the seventh, spared the eighth and followed with a three-bagger and a nine-count.

“When you’re bowling a guy like Glass, he’s a proven champion,” Chamberlain commented. “I just came in loose. When I threw that four-bagger, I got real loose, then.”

Glass and Neff faced each other in the finals for the second consecutive week, this time in the semifinal. Last week in Chillicothe, Ohio, Neff defeated Glass for his fifth senior title. This week, Glass returned the favor, dropping Neff, 229-213. Neff, Homosassa Springs, Fla., earned $3,500 in third.
