Daniel services

Mass of Christian Burial for Johnnie Daniel, 78, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Daniel died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at his home.

He was born Nov. 20, 1923, in Henryetta, Okla., the son of Martin and Charlotte (Davis) Daniel.

Mr. Daniel was a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army paratroopers during World War II. He served in the Far East.

He worked in food service for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 35 years.

Mr. Daniel was a member of American Legion, Haskell Alumni Assn., and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, all in Lawrence. He also worked at Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen.

He married Hildred I. Harrison on Dec. 17, 1954, in Cheyenne Agency, S.D. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include five sons, John Walters, Fargo, N.D., Willard Walters, Sun Lakes, Ariz., Norman, Muskogee, Okla., Dean, Okmulgee, Okla., and Morris, Wellsville, Ohio; a daughter, Barbara Gillispie, Overland Park; two brothers, Jimmie, Streeter, Ill., and Johnson, Wichita; a sister, Sue McIntosh, Dallas; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Clifford Walters and Joseph, died earlier.

A prayer service will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where the family will greet friends from 5 p.m. until the prayer service.

The family suggests memorials to Haskell Health Center, sent in care of the mortuary.
