An area yoga studio is hosting a festival designed to showcase a variety of styles and techniques in the yoga world.

The Free State Yoga Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m Saturday at the Chihowa Retreat Center, 3553 Osage Road, Perry.

“I wanted to get all of these forms of yoga into one place so maybe someone could figure out, ‘Oh my gosh, I love this form of yoga,'” said Krystal Denham, owner of Free State Sup Yoga. “I am really excited to just have a space where all of these teachers are in one place.”

There is a cost to attend the festival, with packages beginning at $65. Organizers say a portion of proceeds will benefit the local food bank Just Food.

The festival includes yoga and meditation sessions, a 5K run/walk, a yoga hike, wellness chats, vendor shopping and live music. Some of these sessions include forms of vinyasa, hatha and acro yoga, which is a combination of yoga and acrobatics.

One yoga instructor at the festival will lead a 90-minute yoga hike, where attendees can stop and do yoga poses that relate to what it is they’re exploring. There will also be a men’s circle with several male yogis present, which Denham said she feels pride about as men are often underrepresented in yoga communities.
