Accident causes significant damage to two mobile homes

What a wake-up call.A Lawrence family was asleep inside their mobile home Saturday morning, when an empty car slammed into it. Another mobile home was then knocked off its foundation.The incident was caused by 38-year-old Daryl Pickens Jr., of Baldwin City, a police report said.Police said Pickens was driving a 1994 Ford Taurus and hit a parked vehicle in the 1900 block of West 31st Street at 2:05 a.m. Saturday.The accident caused the parked vehicle to roll across a street, hit the mobile home where the family was sleeping and became lodged under the northwest corner of the home, police said.Pickens’ car hit another mobile home near the hitch, causing it to move off its concrete block foundation, the police report said.Both homes were badly damaged, but no one was injuredPickens was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence and reckless driving.
