More VP talk from Sebelius and others

With all the talk about Gov. Kathleen Sebelius being a top candidate to become Sen. Barack Obama’s running mate, Journal-World statehouse reporter Scott Rothschild went to the governor herself Wednesday to see whether Obama or anyone from his campaign had popped the VP question and whether the governor minded being considered for the post. Here’s the e-mail response he received from the governor: “There are two and a half months until the Democratic convention, and Senator Obama is just beginning the process of making a selection of his vice president. The decision and timetable for the best person to help him lead the country is entirely up to him,” Sebelius said. “I am supporting him because he is a great leader and I am confident he will choose the best partner from an array of talented individuals. I will do all I can in the upcoming months to help Barack Obama become the next president – he is the right leader to bring people together for real change desperately needed in our country.” “All of the surrogates have been asked direct questions about Senator Obama’s choice for vice president to the campaign. While I appreciate the press interest, this important process has just begun and Senator Obama will let everyone know when it is complete.”In today’s entry on The Fix, Chris Cillizza continues his examination of Sebelius by making the case against Obama choosing her as a running mate. Among his negatives are the governor’s lack of foreign policy experience and a lackluster performance in delivering the Democratic response to this year’s State of the Union Address. It’s tournament time at MSNBC. The network’s political team has put vice presidential possibilities into an NCAA-type tournament bracket and are inviting everyone to pick their favorites in “Veepstakes ’08.” The Republican bracket is down to the Elite Eight, but the Democratic field is still wide open – with Gov. Sebelius as a No. 1 seed in her regional.
