The search for new federal dollars continues inside Lawrence City Hall.

At tonight’s meeting, commissioners will focus on transportation projects. Here’s a look at the list of projects that staff members are recommending commissioners send to Lawrence’s congressional delegation for consideration in a future federal transportation bill.

• $7 million for a new joint city and Kansas University transit facility that would provide maintenance services for the city and university’s bus fleets. No location for the facility has been identified.
• $12.4 million to help with the replacement of the city’s fleet of transit buses. The request specifically says the buses will be replaced with bio-diesel or bio-diesel/electric hybrid buses.
• $12 million for an interchange at Bob Billings Parkway and Kansas Highway 10.
• $2.5 million to add an additional lane to the exit ramps off of Kansas Highway 10 and signalization of the interchange.
• $4.5 million to construct Franklin Road north of Kansas Highway 10 and east to Greenway Circle in the East Hills Business Park. The project also would provide a traffic signal for the new intersection of Franklin Road and Kansas Highway 10.
• $7.5 million to extend Haskell Avenue to O’Connell Road.

Chances of all the projects getting included in a future federal transportation bill are slim. But the city has received federal money through the process before. Earlier this decade, the city received money through the program to expand West Sixth Street in northwest Lawrence.

Commissioners will discuss the list of projects at their 6:35 p.m. meeting tonight at City Hall.
