Shortly before 2:30, Douglas County Deputies and Fire Medical crews were dispatched to the 2000 block of E 1400 Road, about one half of a mile north of Midland Junction on a report of an accident. The caller was a passerby who only reported a vehicle off of the roadway into a culvert. Deputies arrived to find a vehicle with one occupant pinned inside. Medics arrived and requested a LifeStar helicopter respond to the scene. After about 30 minutes of work, the driver was extricated. Following the extrication the driver was said to have gone into cardiac arrest. The injured driver was transported by medics to Lawrence Memorial Hospital at 3:38, with the assistance of LifeStar’s medics on board the ambulance. As of this report there are no updates available on the drivers status. The accident remains under investigation and no other details have been released. Firefighters responded on a dumpster fire in the 2500 block of Redbud Lane at 2:59. Police reported that the Fire Department was investigating the fire as an arson. No suspect information was available.

Lawrence Police responded on six disturbances and conducted three vehicle stops this morning between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m..

Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers recorded a DWI related arrest on westbound Interstate 70 near milepost 200.
