September 1st Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

At 10:38 p.m. last night Lecompton Fire along with LDCFM and KTA Troopers were called to WB I-70 at mile marker 199.7 on reports of a single vehicle accident. Troopers arrived and found a vehicle had traveled through a bridge guardrail and there were five people with injuries. LDCFM arrived and found that one person had suffered critical injuries, two others suffered serious injuries and two more suffered minor injuries. LifeStar was dispatched to respond to the KTA parking lot near the K-10 interchange with I-70 to transport the critical patient to Stormont Vail in Topeka. The other victims were transported between LMH and Stormont Vail by ground ambulance. The initial accident report from the Turnpike Authority Troopers states that the vehicle is believed to have swerved to miss a deer, the vehicle left the roadway and struck the guardrail. None of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing their seat belts according to the report.

Lawrence Police received several calls from motorists reporting possibly intoxicated or just plain reckless drivers around town. The first call was received by Emergency Dispatchers about 11:15 p.m. That call regarded a truck that was towing a boat and having difficulty maintaining a lane while traveling southbound on the river bridge near 6th and Vermont. The vehicle turned west onto 6th street. The truck continued to move around part of Lawrence and eventually ended up parked in a business parking lot before Police were able to catch up with the driver.

LPD also spent a pretty good amount of time dealing with a subject who was repeatedly dialing 911 from a cell phone and then being uncooperative with Emergency Dispatchers or claiming that they had called him first and he was returning the missed call. Police were able to locate the man, after those officers cleared from the address, the man dialed 911 again a short time later and wanted to speak with another officer. The man was again warned about the proper and improper uses for dialing 911.

Police also handled a number of disturbances, noise complaints and vehicle stops.
