Another fairly quiet overnight in Lawrence last night. In case you live under a rock and have not already heard, Osama bin Laden was killed by a Navy SEAL team around 2:30 p.m. Lawrence time on Sunday. This was officially announced by President Obama last night and afterwards throughout Douglas County there were numerous reports of sounds of gunfire and fireworks called into Police.

There was also a spontaneous gathering on Mass Street celebrating the news of bin Laden’s death.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Lawrence Police received a report of a possible intoxicated driver. About 20 minutes after Police received the information, a vehicle matching the description was involved in a non-injury accident in the 600 block of New Hampshire. Officers did make one arrest at the scene.

The rest of the night mostly consisted of the normal every morning calls; a few pedestrian checks, a burglar alarm and disturbances.

On another note related to the Osama bin Laden news, from the Lawrence Journal World’s Twitter page last night. “If you’re going to be flying an American flag in NE Kansas tomorrow, snap a picture and @ it to us. Or email editor@ljworld.com.”
