June 23rd Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

A pretty busy night for KU Police on and just off of campus this morning. Shortly after 1:30 a.m. a call to KUPD informed them of a robbery that had just occurred in the area of Potter Lake. The caller was the victim and advised dispatchers that he was walking when he was approached by a green four door car occupied by a black male driver and a white male passenger. The victim stated that at least one of the men said he had a gun and demanded to victim’s wallet and cell phone. The victim complied and was able to get a partial license plate number on the car as it sped away eastbound on Memorial Drive towards Mississippi.

One KUPD Officer arrived quickly with the victim while several other Officer’s were checking the area for the vehicle. The Officer with the victim quickly gathered information on the vehicle involved and the suspects inside. That information was immediately passed along to Lawrence Police.

A few minutes before 2 a.m., Lawrence Police had located a vehicle that matched the given description, right down to the partial license plate number. LPD stopped the vehicle and removed three occupants from inside. When Officers approached the vehicle, one immediately advised that there was a handgun visible in the car along with an item of clothing that the victim had described. The vehicle was stopped in the area of 9th and Avalon, not far from where the original incident occurred. All three subjects in the vehicle were taken into custody by KUPD and transported to the Public Safety office for questioning. Around 5 a.m. at least two of those subjects were transported to the Douglas County Jail.

The rest of the night was pretty quiet. There was one reported disturbance in Lawrence that allegedly involved a knife being displayed. The male that had the knife left the area prior to Police being called to respond. There were no serious injuries reported with any of the overnight activity.
