August 28th Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Another night full of what seemed like an increased Police presence in Lawrence. Officers handled more than 20 alcohol violations after 10 p.m. with the last one just before 2 a.m.

Police handled a number of noise complaints, disturbances and conducted many vehicle stops throughout the night. A few of the vehicle stops earlier in the night involved callers who were following erratic drivers, with the suspicion that the driver was intoxicated. At least one DUI arrest was made early in the night as a result of one of those 911 calls in Lawrence.

Just before 10 p.m. Baldwin City Fire along with Douglas County Deputies were called to the 466 E 1700 Road on reports of a single vehicle accident. Deputies arrived and found a truck had crashed into a ditch just off the side of the road. The truck was on its side and the occupant had exited the vehicle. The Fire Department arrived and advised that the subject had suffered serious injuries. LDCFM was requested to respond to establish a landing zone for a helicopter to transport the patient. A landing zone was established at Vinland Airport. LifeFlight Eagle, from Harrisonville, Missouri, landed at Vinland and transported the patient to KU Medical Center in Kansas City.

LPD was called to the 500 block of Pioneer Road, just after 11:30 p.m. to investigate a report of five gunshots heard in the area. Police arrived in the area and were not able to locate anything related to the report.

Just after 2:30 a.m. Police responded on a non injury accident in the 1200 block of W 6th Street.

A report of shots fired by the occupant of a vehicle after a disturbance was reported to Lawrence Police shortly before 3 a.m. Police responded to where the disturbance occurred, 1000 block of E 23rd Street, the suspect vehicle was reportedly last seen eastbound on K-10 at a high rate of speed. LPD along with County Deputies checked east to the Johnson County line with no vehicle matching the given description located. The suspect vehicle was reported to be a white Pontiac. Needless to say, LPD had a huge Police presence investigating this incident. I counted at least 12 units involved in some form.
