A large area of high pressure over the desert southwest is allowing several waves of energy to rotate around the eastern side of that high pressure. Those waves of energy will be the focus of storm development in the plains from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday Night. Eastern Kansas is on the extreme eastern edge of the storm risk through Thursday night. Thunderstorms that will originate in central Nebraska late Wednesday are generally expected to dive south in central Kansas, although we may see a few isolated storms make it far enough east to give us a chance through the night. Then Thursday some remnant energy will likely re-fire some storms in the afternoon, and that looks to be our best chance for storms with this system. At this point we are looking at only a slight risk for severe weather on Thursday, from the Storm Prediction Center. And I don’t expect the area will go any higher in our severe weather threat.
