No heat relief in sight

I have had countless conversations about the weather over the past several days. They are more observations from people rather than questions about the weather. “Boy is it hot!” and “I have to water again… thanks a lot!” are the most common phrases heard, but the one that rings in my ears is “When is it going to cool down?”At this point, our only chance of cooling down in the next several weeks will be with clouds and rain. It is a short-term solution to a long-term pattern. The jetstream is the main hurdle that we have to cross, or more accurately, the hurdle that has to cross us. The jetstream works as a dividing line between the warmer air that we are seeing now, and the cooler air that we will see come late summer and fall. The jetstream has been, in essence, in Canada for the last week and a half, and is just now showing signs of breaking this pattern. Best case scenario for us is if the jetstream continues to buckle to our west and cooler air drops in for a short time in the first couple of days in August. Even with that, we are looking at a couple of days in the mid to upper 80’s, maybe cooler if it brings a little rain our way.The short story is: It is going to be hot into the first days of August and even after that it will probably still be pretty warm.
