There’s no place like home

Thank you, Lawrence!

After a vacation that didn’t go exactly as planned, I was so anxious to get back to Lawrence and check out some local music.

Oh Lawrence, you spoil me. First, the Fiesta, then an incredible show at the Taproom.

I get the feeling everyone else was a little stir crazy too. Just check out this sassy crowd that showed up.

Dri is one of my favorite acts in Lawrence. So it’s no wonder I was bouncing-off-the-walls-level of excited when Dri and Danny Pound (another favorite!) decided to play a show at one of those wonderfully intimate Lawrence venues.

First, Danny Pound took the stage and melted my heart. This man could melt my heart just by tuning his guitar.

Then, Dri took the stage and rocked it.

People have heard me time and again complain about not having enough strong female musicians to connect with. Dri fulfills this void for me 100%. Not only do I thoroughly enjoy that sound, but it’s local. LOCAL! I get to see and hear this as many times as I’d like throughout the year. Last year, Dri played the taproom on my birthday. Fantastic!

And I got to hear what I assume was some new tracks. Even though she belted out some of the old favorites. Just listen to her wail.

Oh Lawrence, you spoil me. And for only $3. Another perk of going to shows in Lawrence.

So between Danny Pound and Dri, I was on cloud 9. Two of my favorite local acts in one night? Not a bad homecoming if I do say so myself.

Last week DotDot commented on a blog entry of mine wherein I discuss the horrors of big city shows, and how from now on I’m swearing off the big stuff and just sticking to the local shows.
This was the comment:
“There’s no place like home.
Sorry. You made me.”

When I was at the taproom, swimming in a sea of familiar faces and surrounded by good music, I looked up and saw what’s in the following photo, and couldn’t help but think of that comment and smile.
