What is your favorite Kansas art?

In honor of Kansas Day, I thought I’d pose the question: What visual artist or piece of art from the Sunflower State is your favorite?Go ahead and hammer me for being cliche, but I’ve loved John Steuart Curry since I was a kid. There was something about seeing the John Brown painting in the Capitol for the first time — then, riding the old cage elevator up so you’re at eye level with the fiery-eyed Brown — that hooked me early on.I went on to have a deeper appreciation for Curry’s works, though. They speak to me personally, having grown up in rural Kansas. You’ll probably remember last year that the Kansas Sampler Foundation held an online poll to determine the “8 Wonders of Kansas Art. Winners — in addition to the John Brown mural — included the Keeper of the Plains in Wichita, the Birger Sandzen Gallery in Lindsborg, Gordon Parks (from Fort Scott), the Garden of Eden in Lucas, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict, the Blue Sky sculpture in Newton and the Buffalo Bill bronze sculpture in Oakley. So what are your favorite works of art dealing with Kansas? How about your favorite Kansas artists?
